As technology progresses in time and embraces more and more professional areas education becomes crucial. As a graphic designer I wanted to contribute by researching new technology for designers, from software to language programming. Experimental software is necessary as a resource because it creates new possibilities, what was experimental ten years ago is now learned and used without any problem.
The World Wide Web has become a new dimension in our lives, where we form communities and get informed, learn and even entertained, a new society of communication. To have all these options we need a world wide language, which is hypertext that creates the basic foundation of a webpage. At the top of this structure humans need information decoded by understanding the use of web pages that display web typography.
Experimental software is necessary as a resource for the new generation of graphic designers who want to go beyond average expectations. Computers and graphic design have merged together in my present and future interests. Web typography has been my focus because I want to accomplish a greater contrast and hierarchy similar to print.
I decided to create a tutorial website, webtypography.org, that will help designers have the typography design basics at all times for the web. This includes: structure of a letter, spacing, color, contrast, layout, where everything is explained. CSS Cascading Style Sheets is one of the most reliable tools to design web pages. Also, there is a book created based on the website, for anyone that prefers to see a 3D object rather than the screen of a computer. In the installation I have posters printed of spreads of the book that emphasize, the structure of web typography.
As a graphic designer I want to embrace print and web together, even though
Both are two different mediums, they have to work together to communicate the message. Graphic Designers need to act now to re-create rules that will lead to a better design in web publishing. Therefore webtypography.org will embrace all this problems bringing solutions and creating inspirational examples.
